The LTD History:
In 1966 Ford introduced LTD as a step up model to the Galaxie.
1966 the baseline Fords where :
Custom = Basic model
Galaxie = A little more trim and options
LTD = Top of the line
Engines in the LTD was from strait 6 cyl. via various smallblock V8 to the mighty 460
In 1969 the body changed and the famous 351W was introduced
1975 changes was made in the front and rear. LTD Brougham became LTD Landau ( The top of the line Ford )
The new downsized Ford LTD was introduced for the 1979 model year. The new LTD
was available from 1979 to 1982. Base engine these years was 302 ( optinal 351W )
The LTD-S was a low-priced version of the LTD that was used as a fleet package car. The
LTD-S model had only a single headlight on each side of the front grill.
The 1979 and 1980 LTD had ventilation slots in the middle of the front bumper.
The 1981 and 82 models had a solid front bumper. Also all of the 1982 Ford LTD's had the blue Ford oval on the front grill, previous models had the word FORD stamped on the top of the front grill.
For 1983 the car was renamed to LTD Crown Victoria. The LTD name was given to the mid-sized Fairmaout based Ford, commonly known as the baby LTD.
The baby LTD or Fox sized LTD was the first LTD with a sad 4 cyl 2.3L engine and was finally replaced by Ford Taurus.
The LTD was next restyled in 1988, and remained basicly the same until it was replaced with an all new Crown Victoria in 1992.
The Crown Victoria is still manufactured in US
